Michael League’s collective is the new jazz sensation. Since 2004 the Brooklyn-based group has been provoking unprecedented excitement, with a Grammy Award in January 2014 and their most recent album never out of the charts. To unanimous praise from the critics, the Snarky Puppy band has tirelessly gone onstage (almost 200 concerts per year worldwide!) to meet audiences in ever-increasing numbers.
2015 will definitely be a great year for Michael League and his group with the release (due in April on the legendary impulse! label) of Sylva, their project with the famous Metropole Orkest. Magnified by the creations of Miraphora Mina (the graphic artist known for her work on the Harry Potter films), Sylva is a dreamlike cinema-concept-album dedicated to the forest, a place which, in the words of Michael League, is « at one and the same time innocent, frightening, inspiring, impenetrable, fragile, stoical, a revelation, a shelter, a labyrinth, a temple, a tomb, a sanctuary, a parliament and a prison. »
There’s no doubt that the energy and creativity of Snarky Puppy will be sublimated not only in the studio (album available on April 20) but also onstage (concerts in Rotterdam on April 30 and May 1, and in Paris on May 7) with the fantastic strings of the Dutch orchestra known for its work with Elvis Costello, Gregory Porter, John Scofield and Laura Mvula.
